The Waterways Centre for Freshwater Management invites applications for a continuing, full time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Groundwater Studies, based at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

The Waterways Centre for Freshwater Management is the pre-eminent tertiary institute in New Zealand for training and research in the field of freshwater resource management. It was created in 2009, is jointly operated by University of Canterbury and Lincoln University, and has small core staff group and a membership of 50 academic staff across both universities.

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Groundwater Studies will be one of the Waterways Centre's core staff, leading teaching and supervising postgraduate research in the area of groundwater studies. The position will involve strong engagement with the Department of Geological Sciences.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to teaching of the Waterways Centre and Department of Geological Sciences, delivering innovative and effective lectures and tutorials or practical/field sessions in existing papers and contributing to the assessment of these courses when appropriate. The applicant will be expected to coordinate at least one undergraduate course and one postgraduate course each year, and develop and run a new postgraduate course in groundwater hydrology/hydrogeology, assessment and management. Occasional lecturing into other department papers or presentations to professional bodies may also be required.

The appointee will also be expected to supervise Masters and Ph.D. students, and establish a vigorous externally-funded research programme in groundwater characterisation, assessment and/or management. It is also expected that the appointee will collaborate with other researchers, develop strong links with professionals in the field and make substantial contributions at local, national and international levels in the discipline.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in groundwater hydrology or hydrogeology or other field of relevance in groundwater resource assessment and management.
