The University of Wollongong, Australia has an outstanding reputation for innovative research and quality and creativity in learning and teaching.  The University’s Strategic Plan (2013-2018) established the Faculty of Social Sciences, and created the new Department of Geography and Sustainable Communities, based upon the research successes of the Australian Centre for Cultural Environmental Research (AUSCCER).

In a period of dynamic development, UOW is seeking to recruit an Associate Professor/Professor of Human Geography (Sustainable Communities) to build on and further enhance AUSCCER’s outstanding international reputation for dynamic and collaborative geographical research, and to steer new flagship degree development within the Department of Geography and Sustainable Communities, as it grows to become a full School in Jan 2016. UOW is currently celebrating being ranked in the top 100 geography departments worldwide, by QS rankings.

The post of Associate Professor/Professor of Geography (Sustainable Communities) will have an outstanding academic teaching and research track record in human geography, pursuing culturally-informed approaches to sustainable communities, emergency, disaster and hazards management, social resilience and/or climate change adaptation.

The successful candidate will have high-level leadership and inter-personal skills, experience in new curriculum design and a passion for improving community sustainability and social resilience amidst ecological uncertainty. In helping to further enhance the global reputation of AUSCCER’s thriving research culture the successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of securing research funding, sustaining a culture of creativity and collaboration, as well as empowering and developing others. In helping to further develop and teach a degree program in sustainable communities a particular interest in pedagogy and the student experience is essential.
