The Centre for Urban Research

(CUR)
at RMIT University seeks highly capable scholars to undertake PhD studies
on urban questions.

The CUR is one of Australia’s leading centres for multi-disciplinary
research on urban questions. Collectively CUR staff produce new critical
and applied knowledge for scholarly, policy, and civic communities that
seeks to understand urban life and improve how we manage cities and provide
for inclusive and sustainable urbanisation. We do this with enthusiasm and
commitment to a better global urban future.

Our group of more than 45 researchers includes many experts in their
international fields. This expertise is focused and coordinated via
seven Research
Programs*: Planning and Transport in City Regions; Urban Cultures and
Technologies; Housing and Urban Economies; Critical Urban Governance;
Climate Change Adaptation; Beyond Behaviour Change; and Interdisciplinary
Conservation Science*. We are able to accommodate a wide array of research
topics.

The CUR’s location in central Melbourne places us at the heart of one of
the world’s most liveable and most student-friendly cities. Melbourne is
one of Australia’s fastest growing cities and sits within the rapidly
urbanising Asia-Pacific region, offering ample potential for urban research.

Scholarship packages are available via RMIT’s annual application round.
These are awarded on a competitive basis and include an annual living
allowance of AUD $28,849 (2015 rate, indexed annually). In addition a
limited number of fee scholarships are available for international
applicants.

Successful applicants should have a minimum of first class honours in a
relevant discipline (including a research component equating to one full
time semester of study), or equivalent research experience. A record of
research publication in reputable peer-reviewed venues is highly desirable.

Successful applicants will also have the opportunity to access RMIT funding
to assist them in undertaking their research activities.
