Position Overview

Associate Professor / Professor in Spatial Information
College of Science

•        Full-time at 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
•        Continuing (i.e. permanent) position

The Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRCSI), Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and University of Canterbury are seeking to appoint a Associate Professor / Professor in Spatial Information  to provide academic leadership, vision and direction in the development and application of innovative solutions to emerging issues in the spatial information industry in areas such as spatial database development, software engineering, system interoperability, web-based data management, system customisation, and system design and implementation.

The successful candidate will have international recognition in a significant area of spatial science or related discipline, as well as demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.  Evidence of commitment to excellent teaching, with demonstrated ability to lead research programmes and gain external funding, is also required. Applicants are required to have a PhD or equivalent experience.

CRCSI is an international research and development centre set up in 2003 in which both LINZ and University of Canterbury are partners.  The University of Canterbury has taken a leading role in capability development in the area of spatial information with the establishment of a jointly taught Masters in Geographic Information Science, the only degree of its kind in New Zealand offering this specialist subject.
