Welcome to the AECURN Newsletter for June 2017

A huge thank you to our Board in 2017 so far who have continued to work tirelessly. Some of their achievements include: developing a SOAC PhD Symposium to boost the work and connections of our members, authoring a Practice Review that will document the short but successful history of AECRUN thus far, integrating AECURN in state networking and academic events, updating our website and streamlining across multiple social media platforms, working on defining our policies and procedures.

A particular thank you to Anna Liedschke and Jasmine Palmer, working as AECURN’s SOAC PhD Conference Chairs to put together what promises to be an excellent and productive PhD Symposium in November.

Congratulations to Jennifer Witheridge who is soon due to have a baby! Congratulations also to Rachael Cole-Hawthorne who has accepted a position in the Queensland Government and remains an Adjunct with Griffith University.

If you have any ideas of what you would like to see included, or could get involved in, please email the National Chairs (Rachael Cole-Hawthorne, Jennifer Witheridge, Liz Adamczyk) at aecurn at gmail.com<mailto:aecurn at gmail.com>.

For the National Chairs

Welcome to Isaac Middle who joins us as WA Chair, and Kane Pham who joins us as NSW Chair.

Isaac is an ECR who completed his PhD in Urban and Regional Planning at Curtin University in 2016. He is a lecturer in Curtin’s Department of Planning and Geography, and a research assistant at the Centre for Sport and Recreation Research. His research lies in the intersection between planning, recreation and place-making – promoting health, building inclusive communities and creating connections between humans and nature through landscapes as diverse as formal parks, nature trails, community gardens and off-the-leash dog exercise areas.

Kane is an Associate at the Institute for Public Policy and Governance and a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Technology Sydney. His research interests are at the intersection of urban studies, urban theory and public policy. He has published on public space development in global cities and socio-political conflicts surrounding megaprojects and is currently conducting research on the application of assemblage thinking within frameworks of urban governance.

Thank you to Dr Fiona Gray who has been an active Board member of AECURN, particularly as Victorian State Chair, Cities sub-group coordinator and in helping to get AECURN more active on social media. Fiona has accepted a role as the Manager of Central Geelong and Waterfront at the City of Greater Geelong and remains an Adjunct Associate Professor at Deakin.
