NZGS IAG Conference July 11-14 2018: ‘Creative conversations, constructive connections’, University of Auckland, New Zealand
NZGS/IAG Conference, Auckland 201
The School of Environment at the University of Auckland will be hosting the biennial, joint conference of the New Zealand Geographical Society and the Institute of Australian Geographers from 11-14 July, 2018 at the University of Auckland. The theme of the conference is ‘Creative conversations, constructive connections’.
The 2018 NZGS/IAG meeting will celebrate a coming-together of discipline, present a moment to re?ect upon research directions, and set agendas for geographic research. The conference theme is a rallying call for setting connected agendas. It challenges geographers to reinvigorate intra-disciplinary dialogue. We call for sessions and papers that outline the latest research across the discipline in Australia and New Zealand; and we have devised a programme that will facilitate creative conversations and showcase Geography.
The conference will commence with pre-conference meetings of speciality groups on Wednesday 11 July, coming together for a formal welcome and opening plenary later that day. Conference sessions will run from 12-14 July inclusive.
Equity and diversity statement
The 2018 conference strives to be inclusive and equitable at all stages. We endeavour to be accessible, diverse and achieve gender balance on the organising committee, session chairs as well as invited speakers and selection of contributed abstracts. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. We will provide regular updates as to how we will accomplish this.

Call for sessions
The conference organisers are pleased to announce confirmation of the dates for the 2018 joint conference of the New Zealand Geographical Society and the Institute of Australian Geographers.
Initial key dates:
* Call for sessions opens December 20, 2017
* Call for sessions closes February 8, 2018
* Sessions listed and call for papers open February 15 – March 31, 2018
Call for sessions:
We invite potential session organisers to propose sessions that address the key themes of the conference or the concerns of the research and study groups of the IAG or NZGS. Sessions may take the form of presented papers, panels, practitioner forums, workshops, or other innovative interventions. Formats will need to be negotiated with conference organisers once sessions are accepted.
We call for session abstracts of 150-200 words. These must be accompanied by (i) a session title (max 15 words), (ii) the name(s) of session convenors; (iii) a maximum of 5 keywords, (iv) (if applicable) the name of the Study Group sponsoring the session, (v) an initial estimate of the number of contributors, and (vi) the desired format for the session.
Organisers may choose to liaise with study groups to secure their sponsorship prior to submitting session abstract, but may also submit session proposals to the conference organisers independently.
Once received and accepted in principle, session abstracts will be advertised on the conference website, allowing for delegates to submit papers to specific sessions.
