The 2nd international *Implementing the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable
Development Goals Congress *will be held in partnership with the 26th *EAROPH
World Congress*, in Newcastle, NSW on the 1st and 2nd November, 2018.  The
Congress follows the successful inaugural conference in Melbourne, May
2017, when 240 delegates from around the world met following the signing of
the New Urban Agenda in Quitao.  The focus for 2018 is *Affordable Living
in Sustainable Cities: Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the
New Urban Agenda.*  The aim is to showcase existing and planned actions on
these two critically important frameworks. We are particularly interested
in sharing current experience and practice in multi-agency partnerships,
local government, planning, academic research, housing services and
environmental management, community actions, urban design and the built
environment and eco-system services



The Congress will be based on interactive workshops and plenary sessions.  Five
themes will be explored:



*Leave no-one behind*: housing, homelessness, social equity, zero hunger,
health and well-being, education for sustainability



*Looking after the planet*: water, waste, energy, habitat, consumption



*Building for durability and sustainability*: transport,
telecommunications, systemic asset management, green building, disaster
resilience



*Shaping our Communities*: second-tier cities, urban renewal,
decentralisation and rural linkages, urban planning, building communities,
localising economic development



*Making it happen*: treasury leadership, whole of government frameworks,
cross-sectoral partnerships
