All Hallows’ Day, 2018

Despite the recurrent Australian aversion to importing American “culture,” here is how the Department of Geography at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is celebrating All Hallows’ Eve this year.

Shouldn’t the IAG deplore the smoke pollution caused by candles in those twelve Jack-o’-lanterns. Shouldn’t all principled geographers condemn such a pagan display on the venerable Science Hall? Where is the wisdom of Yi-Fu Tuan in this desecration?

From the moral low ground: “all publicity is good publicity.”

[Disclosure: I aided, abetted, and hugely enjoyed Hallowe’en for thirty-three years in Cincinnati.]
