Dear IAG-List ers
Warrick Fort and I have been working to organise and are pleased to let you know about the Indigenous Peoples' Knowledges and Rights Study Group IAG Pre-conference half-day workshop on Tuesday July 9, 2019. The theme for the workshop is Connecting with place and local initiatives to improve Aboriginal Heritage protection.
The current agenda is as follows:
* Welcome to Country
* Panel discussion on Connecting with place and local initiatives to improve Aboriginal Heritage protection
* Lunch and informal discussion
* Break-out discussions stemming from the morning’s panel and other pressing issues.
Current panelists include: Rodney Dillon an Aboriginal leader, rights advocate, and chairman of Tasmania’s Aboriginal Heritage Council; Rob Anders; from the University of Tasmania who was involved in the development of Tebrakunna Visitors’ Centre and whose research interests are focused on ‘digitising Country’; and, Greg Lehman; keynote speaker at the conference, also a member of Tasmania’s Aboriginal Heritage Council and whose interests include cultural fire management and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
The event will run from 10:30am -3pm on Tuesday July 9 at the Sandy Bay Campus of the University of Tasmania in Hobart (exact location TBC). This should give you enough time to attend the main conference opening later in the day.
Registrations are via our Eventbrite page (https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/iag2019-indigenous-peoples-knowledges-and-rights-preconference-workshop-tickets-59350183998) and places are limited to 40 people. While places are limited, this event is not just for current study group members but for all people attending the conference.
Please email myself (sandra.potter at anu.edu.au), or Warrick (warrick.fort at postgrad.curtin.edu.au) if you have any queries.
We look forward to seeing many of you in Hobart in July.
Sandy Potter and Warrick Fort
