Post Summary
The School of Natural Sciences seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Geography for a fixed period to cover research leave. The successful candidate will deliver teaching and conduct research in the broad field of environmental governance. Teaching and research in environmental issues are key activities within the School and are central to the new agenda and mission of the E3 initiative (http://www.tcd.ie/E3/) and its engagement with the College’s Smart and Sustainable Planet Research Theme. This field is highly relevant to foresight analysis and future environmental planning in Ireland, Europe and Globally and is well supported in terms of funding opportunities through domestic and Horizon 2020 programmes.

Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale (To the bar) at a point in line with Government Pay Policy [€34,813 -€57,972per annum], appointment will be made no higher than point [8]

Tenure-track Assistant Professor, Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science

The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science, in the School of Earth, Society, and Environment, invites applications for a full-time 9-month (academic year) tenure-track Assistant Professor with research and teaching experience in human-environment interactions in the urban Global South. Desired areas for subject expertise include infrastructure, mobility, health, resilience, sustainability, and/or poverty to complement our existing departmental strengths. Our ideal candidate is firmly grounded in both theoretical and empirical work in their examination of urban or peri-urban settings. We are open to a range of methodological approaches, including qualitative methods, GIS, spatial analysis, remote sensing, ethnography, discourse analysis, and/or mixed methods. Teaching responsibilities include introductory and advanced undergraduate courses on geographies of development and urbanization, graduate seminars, and potentially a regional course. The successful candidate will have significant opportunities to develop collaborations with other departments and units across campus, such as the Center for Global Studies; Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment; the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory; and area studies centers such as the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and the Center for African Studies. Women and people from underrepresented minority populations are especially encouraged to apply.
