Dear colleagues:

We are seeking expressions of interest in a fixed-term, full-time post-doctoral researcher position (February 2020 to end of December 2020) to support our ARC-funded research on Making Cities Smart: Emergent Geographies of Smart Urbanism. The research is investigating the politics of smart city governance in Australia.

As the project approaches its final stages, we are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to work with us on data analysis and writing. We are especially interested in expressions of interest from researchers with demonstrable skills in qualitative analysis and writing for publication. Knowledge of current literature on urban studies, smart cities and urban governance would be an asset for the role, as would a PhD in geography or urban studies.

Existing publications from this project include:

  * Dowling R, McGuirk PM, Gillon C (2019) Strategic or Piecemeal? Smart City Initiatives in Sydney and Melbourne, Urban Policy and Research, 37:4, 429-441, DOI: 10.1080/08111146.2019.1674647<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/7MCYCBNZwLi797j9qSzrZzz?domain=doi.org>
  * Dowling R, McGuirk PM, Maalsen S, (2018) Realising smart cities: partnerships and economic development in the emergence and practices of smart in Newcastle, Australia, in Karvonen A, Cugurullo F, Caprotti F (Eds) Inside Smart Cities: Place, Politics and Urban Innovation, Routledge, London, 15-30

The position would be located in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Interested candidates should send a CV to (robyn.dowling at sydney.edu.au<mailto:robyn.dowling at sydney.edu.au> and pmcguirk at uow.edu.au<mailto:pmcguirk at uow.edu.au>) by Friday Feb 21st. You may also email us to discuss the position.
