Dear colleagues

(Apologies for any cross-postings.)

I would like to bring to your attention the updated International Geographical Union LinkedIn homepage<https://www.linkedin.com/company/international-geographical-union/?viewAsMember=true> and to encourage you to 'follow' it (where possible) as one helpful means of keeping up-to-date with IGU activities.

This homepage will now be updated regularly to reflect IGU's continuing and significant work devoted to the development of geography around the world. A key part of IGU's activity is supporting an active global network of geographers. Much of this work is done through major Congresses, Regional Meetings, and the wonderful work of the IGU's Commissions and Task Forces, details of which are all provided on the IGU website. LinkedIn offers an additional and useful medium to support this vital work of developing and sustaining networks.

The LinkedIn home page joins the IGU's website<https://igu-online.org/> and Facebook page<https://www.facebook.com/International-Geographical-Union-282917935136850/> as a part of its online profile.

A note about membership of IGU

Formal 'membership' of the IGU is by affiliated countries only and represents the geographical community in that country as a whole. Nevertheless, individual affiliation to the IGU is possible via its research Commissions. Joining Commissions is actually very easy; it is free; and it is without any commitment - aside from your interest and involvement in the activities of the Commission. The IGU now has some 41 'Commissions' - these are groupings of geographers who are interested in particular elements of the discipline - say Climatology or Urban Geography or Population Geography. Each Commission has its own steering committee and organises conferences and workshops (often around major IGU events but not always), distributes newsletters including news of any upcoming meetings, and publishes books and special issues of journals related to the Commission's focus.

Anyone can get involved with one or more of the commissions totally free of charge and without commitment- simply write an email to the appropriate commission chair (details at: https://igu-online.org/organization/commissions/ ) and let them know you would like to be put on their list of corresponding members. You can find more information about the IGU and its Commissions at the Union's website<https://igu-online.org/>.

All the best Iain
