Is community energy critical to a rapid renewable energy transition?
3.00pm - 4.30pm (AEDT), Thursday 15 October 2020
Join us for the C4CE Research Network’s inaugural online seminar to explore the role that community energy can play in Australia's energy transition. We will hear from three experts in community energy - Taryn Lane, Jan Kucic-Riker and Franziska Mey - on this important question and invite your contribution.
Taryn Lane manages Australia’s first community-owned co-operative wind farm Hepburn Wind at Leonards Hill, just south of Daylesford in Victoria and leads Hepburn Z-NET - her community's zero-net emissions program. She is a Churchill Fellow, founding director of the Australian Wind Alliance and the Coalition for Community Energy and also a consultant who works as a researcher, policy developer and advisor.
Jan Kucic-Riker is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney Business School where his research examines the role of community-owned renewable energy in Australia’s low-carbon transition. His work considers the relations that govern the ownership and use of renewable energy as well as the tensions that exist between competing understandings of community energy.
Franziska Mey is a Director of the Community Power Agency a leading organisation supporting communities to participate in the renewable energy transition. With 10 years’ experience in regional sustainable development and community energy in both Australia and overseas, Franziska’s expertise spans community engagement, business models, facilitation, policy development and partnership building.
