CERN member Katrin Losleben and I would like to bring your attention to a postdoctoral position working with us in Northern Norway. The deadline for applications is December 1. The position is especially suited for those with knowledge of qualitative, artistic, and/or feminist methodologies. Fluency in Norwegian is not required, but language skills in any Scandinavian language, Sàmi, Russian, or Finnish would be a plus.

«Arctic Auditories – Hydrospheres in the High North” is an interdisciplinary project based in the Humanities, which seeks to develop strategies for understanding environmental change through sound. The project focuses on water environments and draws on feminist methodologies. Its aim is to deliver innovative, empowering and democratic listening strategies and to cultivate radical ideas about how different forms of engagement can create positive futures.
Arctic waters will be identified, investigated, and represented through techniques of sound mapping. Using interviews and participant observation, the impact of communal, mindful, artistic, and corporeal activities will be analysed. Soundwalks/ -sittings and podcasts will be created, and a museum exhibition co-curated. The collaboration with local communities in Northern Norway/Northern Sápmi is fundamental.
The holder of the position will recruit participants, conduct and analyze interviews, gather, process and analyze fieldwork data, conduct background research, create a glossary, create and maintain a webpage, be active in dissemination including social media, and will organize gatherings like workshops in addition to writing texts and articles.
