As the School of Geography and Sustainable Community moves into its second year this is an exciting opportunity for a PhD graduate or early career researcher.  You will join The University of Wollongong, which has an outstanding reputation for innovative research, and for quality and creativity in learning and teaching. You will contribute to existing Human Geography subjects, with scope to develop teaching aligned with your specialism.

The University’s Strategic Plan (2013-2018) established the Faculty of Social Sciences, and created the new School of Geography and Sustainable Communities in 2016. UOW is currently celebrating being ranked in the top 100 geography departments worldwide, by QS rankings. In a period of dynamic development in the Faculty, UOW is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Human Geography for a fixed-term contract (until June 2019). The successful candidate will build on and further enhance the outstanding international reputation of the UOW for dynamic, collaborative and critical geographical research, and contribute to teaching the existing subjects within the School of Geography and Sustainable Communities, specifically ‘The Future of Food: Resilience, Communities and Policy’, and more generally where aligned with the appointee’s specialism.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Human Geography, an effective academic teaching portfolio and outstanding research track record relative to opportunity. We would particularly welcome applications from individuals with expertise in critical approaches to political, environmental, economic, or cultural geography.

As a staff member of the School of Geography and Sustainable Communities you will help further enhance the global reputation of Geography at the UOW; engage with the collaborative research culture, undertake community engagement, administrative and recruitment roles. You will be joining a School and Faculty that puts a strong focus on interactive, digitally-innovative and research-informed teaching. In helping to further develop our teaching in an on-line context, a particular interest in pedagogy and the student experience is essential.
