Department of Geography
Health Geography (Assistant Professor)
The Department of Geography (http://www.mcgill.ca/geography/), Faculty of Science, McGill University, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Health Geography. We seek a scholar with a demonstrated innovative research program in global health (e.g. environmental change and health; sustainability and health; equity, social justice and race, and health). The ideal candidate would work within a population health framework – an approach that focuses on the interrelated social and environmental conditions that influence the health of populations across the lifecourse, and includes a skillset that would allow for the teaching of introductory quantitative and qualitative methods. The successful candidate will join an active cluster of health geography researchers in the Geography Department, and will find collaborative opportunities across McGill University, including the Faculty of Medicine, the McGill Global Health Programs (GHP), the Institute for Health and Social Policy (IHSP), the Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID), the McGill School of Environment (MSE), the School of Human Nutrition and the McGill Sustainability Systems Initiative (MSSI).
Applicants must possess a PhD in Geography or an equivalent discipline. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Geography, and develop a vigorous, independent research program, embracing the supervision of graduate students.
McGill University is committed to equity in employment and diversity. It welcomes applications from indigenous peoples, visible minorities, ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities, women, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities and others who may contribute to further diversification. To this end, I draw your attention to McGill's Equity & Diversity Survey (http://www.mcgill.ca/apo/equity-diversity-survey ). We invite you to complete this survey online. If you choose to complete the survey, please use the following reference number [R863]. Please complete the survey by December 3, 2018. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada. As English is the language of instruction at McGill, knowledge of French is an asset but not a requirement.
Candidates should supply their curriculum vitae, statements of teaching specializations and research interests, up to three reprints, and letters from three referees. Submit your application and supporting material to firstname.lastname@example.org. The review of applications will begin December 3, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled.
